Action Alert – Season Expansion – Act by April 8

We are very close to the final step in the process of crossbow season being expanded in Kentucky. As you know, the KDFWR has proposed to expand the season so that it would begin the 3rd Saturday in September and run continuously through the 3rd Monday in January. This proposal will go before a committee of legislators on April 9, the Administrative Regulation Review Subcommittee

It is important that these legislators hear from those who support this change, as we know the minority who oppose it will be vocal.

Here are the important ways you can contact these legislators. We encourage you to do each of these things.

1. Call the LRC Message Line at 1-800-372-7181 and ask to leave the following message for all members of the Administrative Regulation Review Subcommittee. “Please vote to approve the changes to 301 KAR 2:172 to expand the crossbow hunting season in Kentucky as presented by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.” The call takes two minutes or less, and every member of your household who is 18 or older can call every week day. Feel free to call several times between now and April 9.

2. E-mail the committee members and let them know you support the change. Your subject line should be “301 KAR 2:172 for April 9th ARRS meeting.” The main message to include in the body of your e-mail is, “Please vote to approve the changes to 301 KAR 2:172 to expand the crossbow hunting season in Kentucky as presented by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.” Feel free to include other details as to your reason for supporting the change, and include your home address in your e-mail.

Committee Member E-mails (you can copy and paste these into an e-mail):

3. Send the committee members a physical letter. You can send this to their office, home address, or both. Be sure to list your home address in the letter, and we recommend hand addressing the outside of the envelope. Contact info for all is listed at the bottom of this message.

4. If one of the committee members is your senator or representative, please call them at home if their home number is available. You can also request to meet with them in your local area prior to April 9th. Often times they are happy to meet in a local coffee shop or other public place.

Look up your legislators here using your home address.

5. Share this information with other Kentuckians who support crossbow hunting and/or who are willing to contact these legislators. Every Kentuckian has a voice!
